The Skalt Prostop Sharp Edge Tested range comprises compact steel cable self-retracting fall arrest blocks in 6 m and 10 m versions (Prostop 6 SE and Prostop 10 SE), designed for professional work at height. Both variants are equipped with galvanised steel cable and have been sharp-edge tested in accordance with VG11 RFU #11.060 for type A edges (radius ≥ 0.5 mm, burr-free). They are certified to EN 360 under the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and are suitable for both vertical and horizontal applications within clearly defined limits for user weight, free clearance and working angle.
Sharp-edge tested according to VG11 RFU #11.060
The Prostop 6 SE and 10 SE have undergone dynamic and static testing for use over type A edges. With a 100 kg test mass, the arrest force remains below 6 kN and arrest distance below 2 m. As a result, the devices can be used over comparable edges such as rolled steel profiles and roof edges, provided the edges are burr-free and are not classified as “very cutting” in the risk assessment.
Horizontal and vertical use with clear operating limits
Both fall arrest blocks can be integrated into a complete fall protection system, either with an overhead anchorage point or in a horizontal configuration where the cable may run over an edge. In horizontal use the following apply: maximum user mass 100 kg, minimum free clearance of 4 m beneath the user, lateral movement limited to approximately 1.5 m (to control pendulum falls), and use of an anchorage point with a minimum strength of 12 kN in accordance with EN 795. For vertical use the maximum user mass is 140 kg.
Robust steel cable design with controlled arrest forces
The Prostop units use galvanised steel cable with a high static strength (12 kN for 3 minutes without failure). The internal locking and braking system is tested in accordance with EN 360 and EN 364; after conditioning, the unit locks reliably under a relatively low pull and remains locked until the load is released. Measured arrest forces remain below 6 kN, limiting loads on the user, fall-arrest harness and anchorage point.
Scope of use, inspection and service life
The Prostop 6 SE and 10 SE form part of the user’s personal fall protection equipment. Before each use, a visual and functional inspection must be performed (cable wear or damage, corrosion, housing integrity, correct operation of connectors and mechanism). After arresting any fall, the device must be inspected by a competent person appointed by the manufacturer. For steel cable blocks the documentation indicates an undefined (theoretical) service life, provided no serious damage, chemical attack or extreme temperature exposure has occurred.
