Safety warning: Petzl Canyon Guide en Astro
Date of publication: February 25th 2026.
User feedback alerted us to premature wear of the screws on the gated ventral attachment point on ASTRO rope access harnesses manufactured before October 2023 (harnesses that were affected by our call for inspection of ASTRO and CANYON GUIDE harnesses in 2023).
Our assessment found that these harnesses may present a non-conformity which cannot be detected by the test requested in our previous call for inspection. This non-conformity, combined with a specific use involving high lateral stress on the attachment point, leads to premature wear of the screws.
This wear can cause the ventral D-ring’s pin to release, and the attachment point to open, which could lead to serious injury or death.
We ask that you replace the metal D-ring and the screws on the gated ventral attachment point (using the replacement kit made available to you).
All ASTRO and CANYON GUIDE harnesses with serial numbers below
23J 9999999 999 are affected by this replacement (same scope as the
harnesses covered by our 2023 call for inspection).
NB : The latest versions of the ASTRO and ASTRO SIT, sold since
February 2025, are not affected by this safety alert.
To check whether you are affected by this replacement, use the tool below:
Contact your local Petzl after-sales service via the after-sales service section of the contact form to get a replacement kit (D-ring and screws) suitable for the gated ventral attachment point of your harness. The kit will be sent to you free of charge, with the associated installation instructions.
Case A: Shackles are installed on your harness (possible only on ASTRO harnesses). You may continue to temporarily use your harness until the parts are replaced.

Case B: No shackles installed on your harness. Before any use of your harness, carry out the test requested in our previous call for inspection, specifically:
1 - Verify that the screws are correctly installed as recommended in the Instructions for Use for:

2- Remove any accessories installed in the shackle connection holes, if applicable.

3. Carry out the following test:

A simple manual press is sufficient.
4 - Test result:

The pin does not slide out completely (a few mm of functional play is normal).
Passing result: You may continue to temporarily use your harness until the parts are replaced.

The pin slides out completely (it can be removed by hand).
Failing result: Immediately stop all use of the product. Quarantine it until the parts from the replacement kit are received, and installed on the attachment point.
We have updated our PPE inspection form for harnesses, which now includes checking the wear state of the attachment point screws.
